Old School RuneScape clans have been an unofficial thing for as long as the game existed, but in 2021 Jagex made it official and introduced the new clan system. While there are various platforms where you can find OSRS clans if you want to join one, this new OSRS Clan Spotlight series will bring you a different insight into what to expect from some of the top OSRS clans, with unique interviews with the clan leadership.

For this week’s spotlight we meet Prime, a tight knit PvP and PvM clan that’s home to over 150 members who can choose their own path in the clan’s ranking system out of four possible paths! Their leader agreed to share more about the clan’s history and what led them to starting this outstanding and growing clan!
What inspired you to start your own clan in OSRS?
I played as a child/teenager from the era of 2006-2011 (maybe 2012) and spent my time hopping around from the large wilderness warring clans. I spent my childhood on RS yelling into a mic onto teamspeak or ventrillo calling piles and organizing clans for the most part. Christmas of 2023, I found a video of a clan called Divine Kings that I was once a member/caller for fighting Reign of Terror (another clan that I’ve fought against int he past). I immediately thought “Oh man, these guys are all still around! I should play again!”. I fired up an OSRS account that I made around 2018 (played for a week training a pure because I had no friends on here and haven’t touched it until December 2023).
I unfortunately had no contact with old comrades/enemies until recently. I was training at Moss Giants where a clan called Demon Feet recruited me. I was a member for a few days and quickly left because I couldn’t stand the way they operated. I felt like just a number and that I didn’t matter. A few more days in, still while training, I made a couple of friends at Moss Giants, who agreed to start a clan with me. From there, we started out small and gradually grew.
To summarize, I started the clan because I saw that the game was drastically different from the old days. Clans today are built off of giveaways, a leader’s ego wanting to see numbers, and mass/paid recruitment. It made me cringe every time I saw banners marching around the grand exchange or see some of the posts in clan discords. I’m also not a fan of hiding behind streamers either.

What differentiates your clan from other clans in OSRS?
Purity I guess. We’re a clan built off of it’s extremely simple community. We log in, we yap, we PvM, we Raid, and we PK together. Everyone’s just genuinely friendly and gets along well. We actually don’t have a large leadership team currently. It’s just solely myself and all clan mates are equal in their worth/input despite what rank they are. The clan practically runs itself and it’s just a matter of someone saying “anyone want to do XYZ?” in the discord server or CC to get something happening.

How would you describe the overall culture and atmosphere of your clan?
Tight knit. Given what this clan has gone through since it’s creation early January 2024, everyone’s stuck together that’s a true core member. We have a heavy “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” attitude. Everyone feels sad the rare occurrences that someone leaves and will either express that they miss them and work to get that person back. Rather than have a team of leaders RWTing to fund giveaways and recruitment, every member of the clan just recruits or brings their own friends in little by little as they get more comfortable. I do try to post on the FB groups, however, it doesn’t really work out.

Can you share a particularly memorable event that your clan has organized?
Oh man this one’s tough so here’s a couple! Our first clan v clan content (it was a castle wars fight against another clan) where we absolutely demolished them to the point we were toying with them. This happened right after a major turning point in the clan (which I’ll go into detail as an answer for another question). Another would be our first 15-man PK trip where we spent a Friday night clearing clans our size. It felt great and gave me a taste of my youth!

What events you haven’t done already but are eager to host in the future?
While we have done a Bingo this year, I’d like us to grow a bit and do a larger bingo of large team vs large team with a larger pot. I’d also love to do more clan v clan content, larger PK trips, and a monthly PvP 1v1 competition.

What’s the biggest drama or conflict you’ve had to deal with as a clan owner, and how did you resolve it?
A certain person joined during the early days and requested a high rank to help the clan grow. I won’t name him exactly but he was clearly power hungry and quick to throw a ban-hammer rather than defuse situations. He kicked a group of PKers because he called a “mandatory” clan meeting while folks were at work and kicked all related to this one person that couldn’t make it while AFKing at work. Some more drama happened and he didn’t have the ability to problem solve and he eventually stole 90m total from the clan coffer while I was at work and tried to cause an exodus that failed. He now runs his own clan and has the same “I’m the best, you need me” mentality to keep people at his feet. I didn’t have to resolve anything here actually. Once he left, the rest of the clan immediately stepped up and said “F–k that guy, I never liked ’em anyway” in unison and filled the coffer up. We all kept it moving from there and enjoy the game as our passtime while busy with IRL responsibilities as adults.

What’s the most wholesome moment you’ve witnessed in your clan?
Probably the clan’s reaction to the failed exodus attempt. The way everyone banded together while I was unable to do anything at work was amazing. A few members also unfortunately fell for some plug-in phishes at ToA and everyone banded together to help them rebuild rather than let them give up and quit the game. There’s just a lot of comradery and wholesomeness all around as long as you’ve meshed well with your clan mates lol.

What are some of the biggest changes you’ve implemented in the clan over time?
Clan members have come up with a ranking system that operates off of your time in clan and your play style. Rather than ranks that don’t mean anything, we’ve got a “paths” system with 4 subsequent ranks for each path of Raiders, PvPers, Completionists, and Social folk. On-top of that, everyone’s opted to “disband” any form of leadership and leave myself as the sole key of the clan as each member and the more respected members help maintain order. We’re pretty much drama free as we all kinda just get each other. As we grow further, we’ll develop a leadership team again of the most trusted and respected members.

How do you handle recruitment and ensure new members fit well with the clan’s culture?
Well who ever wants to join can join. If you’ve got a mellow personality and don’t mind friendly jokes or banter, you’ll fit in well. I don’t actively recruit, however, I try to recruit people that we’ve all known or interacted with and urge everyone to just yap to each other and develop the bonds. That’s what keeps the clan together. Everyone feeling together. I also spend all the time I can doing whatever content everyone else is doing to keep it in a manner that no one feels like they’re just there to be a number in the clan chat or cannon fodder.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a clan owner for you personally?
Honestly, it’s a lot different than before. We were all kids and now we’re adults with families and careers. I understand everyone’s busy and can’t expect a clan to mass 70% of it’s member base to events anymore. That being said, I’m enjoying the whole content. My clan mates are the ONLY reason I’m playing this game. I will have their backs the same way they have mine. Whether the do PvP content, skill, or raid, each one is valued the same to me.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Yeah. The Winter of Prime is coming. We’re aiming to establish ourselves for 2025 as a respected clan with true old-school aura.
