Have you ever been at the GE and saw a random spam in the chat of a playing stating “buying Voidwaker 400M” and wondered what’s that about? It doesn’t have to be a Voidwaker, it can actually be any low volume expensive item. I’ve seen it with Ancestral, Shadow, TBow and the list can go on an on. What they have in common is an expensive item and a ridiculously generous offer. But what seems to be too good to be true, probably is too good to be true, hence false. And so is this scam. You won’t get richer by trading your items to the scammer… au contrair! This scam can take a variation of three possible scenarios if you agree to sell your item directly to the scammer.

Option 1: GE Price manipulation

There are many obscure items in OSRS, and some are so obscure that they rarely get traded on the GE. This makes them a great target for price manipulation and even RWT scenarios.

These scammers will unnaturally inflate the price of the items by trading them via the GE between two different characters.

The scammer will trade you and offer you a few iconic items such as whips or godswords alongside a stack of the item with the manipulated price which will heavily inflate the total value of the trade.
Prevention: do not trade unless you know the items or you are offered GP.

Option 2: Teleport to Falador / Camelot

Another variation of the scam is them telling you that their main is in Camelot or Falador and ask you to go there to finish the transaction. Once there they will PM you from their main and tell you to hop worlds to them… They’ll be in a PvP world so if you do hop they will simply kill you.

Option 3: Two steps trade

Another one they could pull on you is to ask you to trade them the item on one character promising that they’d pay you with another one…
