While knowing the death mechanics, using the gravestone whenever feasible, wearing as many ornated items as possible and being prepared for death with the death’s coffer are the main ways you can use to minimize death fees, there are a few other tips and tricks you can use. You can learn all about the main ways to avoid death fees in Old School RuneScape in the main article.

You might like

Use the protect item prayer

This one is underrated, but always use the protect item prayer. This prayer consumes very little prayer points so it’s worth keeping it on all the time, especially if you have more than 3 items that would cost to retrieve from the grave!

Teleport out

Always have a handy one click teleport out with you. There are many one click teleport items:

  • most teleport tablets
  • most achievement diary items in their 3/4 forms have unlimited teleports. You can use the menu entry swapper and customize any of them to TP out on left click. The most useful and close toa bank are:
    • Rada’s blessing
    • Dessert amulet
  • Skill capes with the same left click teleport from menu entry swapper. Really useful:
    • construction cape
  • Other one click teleports:
    • Ectophial
    • Eternal teleport crystal
    • Royal seed pod
    • Drakan’s medalion
    • Mythical cape

Use learning gear

This is especially true when you have gear that’s expensive to retrieve and when there’s no retrieval system. It is also especially true for bosses where you’ll need gear switches. Some good examples are learning the Abyssal Sire or Phantom Muspah. Always bring your elite void or budget alternatives when learning. Bring a Fury instead of multiple neck pieces and barrows gloves. Not only you’ll pay less when you die, but you’ll also have room for some more food. After you familiarize yourself with the boss mechanics bring your BIS gear and enjoy efficiency scape!

Ring of life / Defence cape

A ring of life or defence cape can literally save your life if you wear them. Both items will teleport you to your respawn point if your health drops below 10 percent. The only difference is that a ring of life will break in the process, while the defence cape will not.

Phoenix Necklace

The phoenix necklace can also save you. It restores 30 percent of your hp when your hitpoints drop below 20 percent.

Use the quick claim button on the grave

Always use the quick claim button on your grave to prevent dying again or wasting resources.

Open your bond pouch to enter the PIN

Before you enter the area where you died and where your grave is make sure you input your Bank pin. This is especially useful if you logout after you die to take a break from the game. Upon logging back in simply open your bond pouch since it will ask you for your pin, then collect from your grave.

Check items kept on death

Whenever you’re not sure of the potential death fees, open the items kept on death and make sure you’re only risking as much as you can afford to lose or pay to reclaim.
