Old School RuneScape clans have been an unofficial thing for as long as the game existed, but in 2021 Jagex made it official and introduced the new clan system. While there are various platforms where you can find OSRS clans if you want to join one, this new OSRS Clan Spotlight series will bring you a different insight into what to expect from some of the top OSRS clans, with unique interviews with the clan leadership.

Another week, another clan spotlight! Moonclan is a welcoming OSRS clan inspired by the game’s lore itself. It’s a social clan that hosts a wide range of events for every skill level and account type whether it’s a main, pure or iron, PvM or PvP, both in game and over their discord. Randomized, the clan owner, agreed to share some insight about the amazing clan they’re leading together with their team!
What inspired you to start your own clan in OSRS
I was helping run another clan for a long time in OSRS and had a falling out with the clan owner over certain policies enacted. Having ran successful clans in so many MMOs before (RS3, ESO, SWTOR, and more) it came very naturally.
What differentiates your clan from other clans in OSRS?
Moonclan gets the benefit of having its name tied to in game items and lore, so we get to play off that a lot. Wearing Moonclan robes to PK and have a very heavy influence from RuneScape itself helps build a theme for new players.
How would you describe the overall culture and atmosphere of your clan?
I’ve been told numerous times that our discord has the most active, daily voice chatters that they’ve ever seen. We have a very strong community with so many wonderful people.
Can you share a particularly memorable event that your clan has organized?
Well, we do weekly events, frequent special clan learner sessions, and more but our most popular is the Wilderness Altar event where we get to Pk and level some Prayer. However, our most memorable event has to be our clan meetup this year. We rented a cabin in the mountains and had a lot of people come out to stay with us! Was one of my favorite experiences I’ve ever had and I will cherish it forever!
What types of events and activities does your clan regularly host?
Wilderness boss trips are extremely frequent, skill and boss of the week, bingo, tile races, raid learner events and so, so, much more!
What events you haven’t done already but are eager to host in the future?
We have done it all but would really love to see the return of a good prop hunt plugin (that works more constantly) so we can bring back a well-loved event!
What’s the biggest drama or conflict you’ve had to deal with as a clan owner, and how did you resolve it?
Throughout my whole life and every guild/clan I’ve run there are always tiny bits of conflict that you have to deal with. Running a large clan with hundreds, if not thousands, of people can be very challenging and stressful. The most drama for Moonclan was simply its start, leaving another clan to create something wonderful of our own.
What’s the most wholesome moment you’ve witnessed in your clan?
Our keys are so wonderful and helpful so there are far too many instances to list here. Thank you to my incredible admins for being the peak of the Old School community!
What are some of the biggest changes you’ve implemented in the clan over time?
Thanks to the help of our community and admins, our PvP side has grown exponentially this year! Massive trips daily in our Discord with 20-30 individuals sometimes having a blast.
How do you handle recruitment and ensure new members fit well with the clan’s culture?
We have 11 admins (currently) who I have been extremely close with for years and they have come to know our policies very well. They maintain our clan so very well. We have an open-door policy allowing anyone to join and our moderation keeps things completely in line.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a clan owner for you personally?
Meeting life-long friends who I have met multiple times IRL despite being hundreds and even thousands of miles away!
